Ficus take great to pruning but I don't want to give you advice until I see your plant and know how large it is. I am attaching a photo of my Ficus, age 25 years. I couldn't convince the cat to sit in the pot (something she would normally be doing if I didn't want her to) but the plant is 4 1/2 feet tall. I prune the tree and also the roots.
