I have a friend who has a large Pereskia in his front yard - his pretty much takes the sun here in the summer, it probably gets some late afternoon shade from a mesquite tree, but is mostly serving as a shade tree for many other cacti and succulents - next time I am there I will try and get a picture, it is a very well grown specimen. I think it gets through cold spells OK because it is close to the south facing wall of the house and here in the suburban heat island we tend to not get too many really cold nights these days.
It is what it is!
