Short for Schomburgkia. The former name of Myrmecophilas was Schomburgkia. Our own orchidwiz, Jim, who loves telling us all the complicated new names for our favorite flowers still likes to call them Schomburgkia because it rolls off the tongue so well. (and also because I guess Dr. Richard Schomburgk was a famous German botanist as Daisy pointed out earlier).
