They are basically little tables that can be lifted off and on the bench tops. Ours are about 2 feet high by 12" wide. You start with a piece of 1x12 pine and cut it to length (how ever long you want it). Than we screwed two legs on each end using 1x3 pine about 2 feet high and used the same 1x3 pine to make a base for the leg foot for added stability. Use another 1x12 piece of pine for the second shelf and screw them into the 1x3 pine legs. All joints are glued and screwed for stability.
