My idea was to have this categories already done by the ATP system without having to categorize it by yourself. Let's say I want to see all the Acer palmatum cultivars in my list or only know the number of A; palmatum I have in my list, I can't do it without creating a category called "Acer palmatum". Actually, I can see easily with the pop up menu all the plants for the Acer genus, I would have like to be able to categorize dynamically not only the genuses but also the species.
I like also your idea of sorting the personal plant list by tree, shrub, perennial, medicinal, fragrant, native, etc... So the idea would be to have more views available for the plant list (some automatically pre-configured by the system + the one created by the owner of the plants) and each users may use its favorite ones.
