I feel that a huge issue that I have never seen addressed anywhere is that of so many doctors with heavy foreign accents, which many people -- and in particular the elderly -- have difficulty understanding. And again, the elderly in particular do not want to appear "stupid," so they don't speak up and ask questions, but just nod their head and walk away, basically not having a clue about what they are being treated for or with, or what they should expect to happen. Sad

And even with doctors who speak English as their first language, there is way too often a huge disconnect between what the doctor says and what the patient hears. I'm not sure where one would even begin to address this problem...

Sandy this is a pet peeve of mine. Many of the doctors here seem to be from India. Ours is incredibly hard to understand. I am told he is a good Doctor and he certainly did pull me thru a tough time a few years ago, but it is tiring to have to ask him to repeat things. I also feel that sometimes Doctors from other cultures do not understand how Americans think on issues. I ask lots of questions, I kind of doubt that happens where he came from. Whistling Yes, I can be a pain. Hilarious!
