Homer Alaska, lucky enough to find a piece of property on the Homer Bench. Beautiful country but it turned my ideas of a "milder" climate then northern MN right on it's head. I had the hardest time understanding how unique extended daylight and short summers affected plants there. I had assumed milder=less harsh, no concept of challenging for completely opposite idea of challenges. You had a post about growing OT lilies that sparked quite an interesting discussion about hardiness, day length with Roosterlorn and Leftwood participating that I wanted to chime in but couldn't at the time. It might be interesting to others to revisit the topic. Just the way natures bounty is used to create gardens where thin soils and sources for obtaining more are scarce or prohibitively expensive was quite a learning opportunity for me.
Pushki covered land when we bought it. Gardens started with sea weed and cardboard ( Lasagna garden, built up in place of soil, raised beds for drainage and to compensate for always chilly soils) Pushki beautiful but nasty stuff for burning skin and even harder to cope with then Pushki is the moose everywhere. Pushki can cause burns and is really hard to keep under some sort of control, but those moose eat everything in sight and one on the run across the yard is not something you are likely to live through in a collision.
