I would recommend auto settings unless they are coming out too light or dark , shutter speed and aperture can affect the light of the shot too.
iso is probably the easiest way to do it though , higher iso setting can be noisier / more static
longer shutter speed lets in more light but can blur if camera is not steady
lower aperture setting lets in more light but the depth of field / area actually in focus is reduced
A pint can't hold a quart , If it is holding a pint it is doing the best that it can.
