Thanks for alerting me to the "bush" varieties. I had been investigating the Dwarf Tomato Project varieties for containers but had not realized that the "bush" tomatoes were also suited for planting in pots. A quick web survey found several possibilities for growing from seed. (I agree that $15 per plant is out of the question!)

Bush Early Girl (64day determinate 6-7oz) Burpee, Harris, TotallyTomato
Better Bush (68day indet. 8oz) Park, Bonnie, Tom.Growers, Bot.Int.,Reimer
Extreme Bush (50day det. 3oz) VictorySeed
Bush Goliath (68day det. 3-4") Tot.Tom., Reimer, Pinetree, HPSseed
SuperBush (72day det. 6oz) GrowOrganic
Bush Beefsteak (62day det. 8oz) Tot.Tom., Stokes, Tom.Fest, Reimer
Bush Champion II (65day det. 8-12oz) Tot.Tom., Burpee,Tom.Growr.
Czech's Bush (66day det. 4-8oz) SeedCo., Czechs-Bush seeds

All but the last are hybrid. Most reviews say these are productive varieties but disagree on taste--some say good, others bland. I guess I'll have to try them myself next year--too late for this season. I'm leaning toward Bush Goliath and Extreme Bush to start with, but am open to other suggestions. It will be interesting to see how they compare with the dwarf project varieties.
