Yes, It wouldn't be too hard to get some kind of wide pan fabricated. I was thinking more about the legs getting wet either from splash/ or position so close to the pond basin. Not to mention that wind can blow the water around when you have a fall from a 3ft or so height. We see that all the time from the Bird Bath Pond and quite often turn it off on windy days.
