Karen - Thank you. I, sadly, had to change the cultivar in my avatar since the other photo was of a loved seedling that died over the Winter. I can't tell you how disappointed I was to lose it. I had planned to continue to grow it out and then name the seedling after my sister. Now I am back to square one. But I keep telling myself that an even more beautiful seedling will come along.
The bloom you now see in my avatar I believe is called, "Showboat". It's a cactus orchid (actually a succulent plant) that is an Epiphyllum. I received two cuttings of it several years ago and it has finally begun to bloom. I invited my elderly neighbor to see it and she was stunned. It's a day bloomer and has stayed open for two days! Which I didn't know they could do. Typically they only bloom for one day like daylilies. This bloom was probably about 8 1/2" - 10". Bigger than my out-stretched hand! It is even more gorgeous in real life than that photo. I always say when I receive cuttings of epis .... that I HOPE to live long enough to see them bloom.
