The purple seedling is an accidental one that came where I had planted a black one some years ago. Back then I didn't know that irises couldn't revert back in color, but that's what I though it was at the time. The black was a potted iris I bought from a nursery, and there were a few rhizomes in the pot, so I really don't know if it's a seedling or if there was some other iris rhizome that got mixed in with the black one. But, since the black one died, and it was a few years later that this one showed up it's most likely a seed that germinated from the black one. It seems to be very hardy here, and has not ever rotted here. I haven't heard if it has been bothered by rot in other places. I have it in a couple of places in the gardens. I crossed it with Adriatic Waves and Art House and there are a few of them putting up bloom stems this spring. I'm hoping to add some of it's hardiness and get some ruffles and lines going. We'll see what we get.
