I'm pretty sure almost everyone can relate to at least some of those... park at a mall, not paying that much attention because your mind is on something else, forget which door you went in...
and, doesn't EVERYONE look at that giant map in the mall??
I have been seriously lost inside hotels more than once -- and have recurring dreams about being in a large hotel (or some such thing -- maybe my college dorm?) and never being able to get back to my room because I can't find the stairway that goes there. And I think I spent the entire 7th grade (long long ago, but it left a lasting impression) not actually knowing how I got to my science class every day.
On the other hand, if I have a map - or GPS - I'm fine. Not a good idea to ask me for directions, though...
I particularly like this one:
"11. You can never remember which way to exit the mall department store in order to get back to your car in terms of “it was a left around this corner and then a right there.” Rather, you think, “well, there were a bunch of funky-looking colorful socks in the corner, so if I see them, I’m on the right path.”"
I'm imagining the store clerks rearranging things while I'm shopping and those socks are in some other area... uh oh !
