Solanum betaceum was a fad in the 60's. It is actually a tropical shrub so in most of the USA it was promoted as a house plant. Vendors like Spring Hill filled the Sunday Newspaper suuplements with glowing ad for the "Tree tomato" and the Pomato( tomato grafted onto potato root stock). Lots of folks bit and were dissapointed so they basicly dissappeared after a few years. Fruit is edible but was a major letdown for those expecting a tomato. It is native to South America, but New Zealand leads in commercial production. Don't know your climatic conditions in the Baja, but if you can grow citrus it should work. It is a perennial tree, so it take some time from seed. Life span is a bout the same as a peach tree. about a dozen years of productivity.
