Wish I could sit down at your computer with you to help, but since I can't I will try to explain what I do to keep my pictures in order.
Not sure how much you've worked with folders on the computer, so I will try to explain the basic way I get pictures to go where I want them to.
On the C drive, you probably have a "My Pictures" folder. Open that folder, right-click anywhere on the screen, select "new", then select "folder". You will get a new folder that you can name. I would name it "2016 Daylilies". Then when you upload the pictures from the camera to the computer, make sure to copy and paste the pictures to just the "2016 Daylilies" folder.
Once you know the pictures have been copied and pasted correctly from the camera to the computer, you can then delete the pictures from the camera. You can also just cut and paste or drag and drop the pictures from the camera to the "2016 Daylilies" folder in the computer. Copying and pasting is an extra step, but at least I know I can always delete the pictures from the camera and I haven't lost any pictures in the process.

It does take a lot of time to upload the pictures and rename the pictures. Each year I tell myself I won't take as many pictures because of all that time, but each year I seem to end up taking thousands.
