Today, I marked as many iris as I could reach with a Sharpy Extreme marker. I marked the name of the plant on the leaves of the bloom stalk and also on a sturdy T-Marker that I stuck in the ground in front of each plant. Some 'Dusky Challenger' had shown up, mixed in with 'Sugar Coated' and near 'Starring' , and also had made a good-sized clump for the first time since I transplanted it from an old bed last fall.
I again recorded the day of the month each of my iris have been blooming, beginning with the May 7, when 'Jesse's Song' and 'Clarence' began blooming. Jesse and Clarence both had one last, fading bloom on them today. I snapped off all the spent blooms I could find and mourned the end of the "peak" of my beautiful iris. Sighing!
