We've had this specimen in our garden for about 5 years, having purchased it in a pot at an Ace hardware store and transplanted to the ground. Leaves look somewhat like a banana plant, but it is much shorter (about 3 feet tall max). In early April we were greeted by two yellow flowers for the first time. These are about the size of a medium artichoke. A row of petals, starting at the bottom, open about once weekly, exposing rows of small stamen/pistil looking parts. Bees are very active around it, although we see no evidence (yet) of fruit forming. Does anyone know what this plant is?
