Clematis
Hello,

Last Spring I picked up a 2qt pot of Hagley Hybrid at Home Depot. The pot had no price, it was the only pot of clematis in the store and it wasn’t listed in the store inventory. The store manager couldn’t find it in the computer and rather than wasting more time on an item that didn’t exist, per the computer, he asked me if $7.99 was acceptable. It sure was. The next morning I potted it in a 5 gallon container.

It was my first clematis but by the Fall I wasn’t particularly impressed. The vine never grew over 3 feet high and it produced less than 2 dozen flowers through the end of the fall.

This Spring I have been pleasantly surprised by the quick growth spur. The vine is almost 6 feet high and it has been blooming since late April. I hope it will eventually spread over any ugly section of fence.

The big surprise is that there was another vine in the pot! That vine is blooming even more that the Hagley. It has beautiful dark pink, star-shaped flowers that are 4-5 inches across.

Can anyone here help with the identification? Photo attached.

Many thanks in advance.

Dia
