The color of mine is a deep burgundy and the throat is a bright lemon-lime (is that even the proper term?). Perhaps it will lighten as it ages but the reason these were given to me was because it was hybridized by a Mississippi State University professor and he was after a maroon flower. Maroon is the major color of MSU. Since I live in Starkville and am an MSU fan, she thought it would be a fitting color in my landscape (actually, its in my raised vegetable garden).
