I keep about 8 to 10 crosses and that's enough, I usually get about 100 to 150 seedlings from that.
Last year when we went to Mariposa Iris Garden, Doug, told us he doesn't plant all of the seeds from each pod. He plants some (I don't remember how many) and if the blooms look good to him then he can always plant the rest. Sounds like a plan for those that have limited space/energy.
