I put bearded iris in the front & way back rows . Lilies can tower over them & still not mess up their air flow.
My tall lilies go in back rows with mums, phlox, tall asters, cannas, tall yarrow, clematis (on the fence), liatris, & whatever.
shorter lilies blend with daylilies, baloon flowers, speedwell, yarrow, daisies,snapdragons, zinnias, etc, etc.
Most Lilies like their feet shaded and heads in the sun. They are wonderful in mixed border gardens.
