Better remind Mom that the screaming and waving will also alarm the birdies. It's better to be stealthy and use lots of grease. I do my screaming and waving at night when the neighbors can't see me. I also bark and growl - but then I'm trying to scare off raccoons, not just squirrels.
Btw next time you're near a HD or Lowe's pick up a tube of SuperLube for Mom. It will last a LOT longer than cooking grease. She only needs to grease the bottom part of the pole below where the feeder hangs, so no worries for the birds up top.
