I may or not have mentioned/questioned before but this situation has changed to a new level. Mom's house came with a small flowerbed that had four matching Box store NOID hostas (the ones that come with the tag that says HOSTA plantain lily...) and some creeping phlox. Moved one hosta and added a large "Chicago Apache" daylily and some tall, sprawling seedlings from compact heliopsis "Tuscan Sun". Each year I accent with cannas and annuals, and this year is no different.

Except this one oddball hosta. Same variety as it's neighbors that are shaded by a hedge. This one gets a little more sun, bleaches quickly and for the past couple of years always the first to throw scapes/ stalks but they grow leaves instead of flowers? It's interesting. I actually enjoy the appearance. The bed is going to get a little bigger and this plant has to go....to my house!

First couple of years I noticed this behavior it was one or two scapes/stalks/stems. It's a blowout this year, full-on leaf bloom. Add to that the leafy blooms are budding flowers this time... I dig it but it is moving...to my house not the compost pile. Just curious what's going on with this leafy critter? I've worked in the lawn and landscape biz since the mid '80's. I grew up with hostas but I am not a hosta expert by any stretch. The leafy tops have all seemed to match the parent. I've not encountered this. I like it but I can't go to the local hosta guru, I'll end up spending my Gossard monies. 2 weeks out, 20 minutes from my doctor. Not missing that this year.
