Well, let me join the crowd and let you know that I have been lurking on this forum for quite some time, but since I didn't have any "pretty, named irises", only a few NOIDs, I always felt that I had nothing to share. But I enjoyed everyone's comments on growing these beauties and photos.I have been gifted a few named irises and am happy to say that they have settled in quite well. So, I'm looking forward to adding some "real" irises and iris beds. My DH and I build our home in midstate SC, between the state capital Columbia and Charleston on 2.5 acres. So I have plenty of room to add my evolving iris and daylily beds. I just need to add plants. For over 20 years, I mainly maintained house foundation borders (shrubs mostly) and a flower border in the back. Several years ago, I tried my hand at veggie gardening, but I was a newbie and made lots of mistakes (foremost, it was too large) that frustrated me and turned me off. I tried again last year, but had problems with deer and couldn't deal with the excessive heat. I have always loved the challenge of growing new plants indoors and now I'm branching outdoors.
I was born and raised in Charleston, SC and have always loved going on garden tours, but never had time for my own garden, as I was a working woman since a young age. I joined DG in 2008, Cubits and now I'm here since 2010 mainly in the houseplant, C & S, and several other forums. I worked several years as administrative secretary at various state agencies, until health problems crept up and I had to apply for disability. Thus, I have more time for gardening and for drooling over everyone's beautiful photos. And look forward to participating in this forum.
I love reading, especially my bible, several hobbies - beading, crotching, sewing and most of all my gardening. It's my therapy and keeps me sane. DH has retired from his primary job as an electronica control technician at a chemical plant, but is now busy with his part-time hobby, cabinet-making and woodworking. He doesn't like gardening, but supports me in my love affair, and I support his.
