It can be a nuisance in the wrong place! It tends to make the soil more compacted and wet which isn't always a good thing, a mass of fine roots cling onto soil when you try to remove it. I've had it where I didn't want it, and I found it to be a nuisance.

Loosening the soil will help, covering it with composted leaves if you can get your hands on some should help, it's great for feeding the soil, worms eat it and keep the soil friable and clear of weeds.
