I'm sorry to hear about the deer making dinner/desert out of your lily buds. I've had that happen a few times over the years, especially with daylily buds. Last year, I planted some of my lilies in pots on the deck and enjoyed the blooms, so this year I decided to do the same. I can see deer tracks going through my back flower border, so yes, there are out there stalking. Somehow they know the exact night to strike, right before the buds open. Blinking Maybe I can still plant them in the ground after they bloom, as I heard that the bulbs become smaller when grown in pots. Confused I don't know if that's true or not. I'm just a newbie with lots to learn. Shrug!

Thanks Rick for sharing your idea about the tulle for covering buds and blooming plants. I think I'm going to get some, the next time I stop by a fabric shop in Charleston or Columbia, if I don't find any at Wally World this week.
