I remember how I learned to drive a stick a.... ummmm.... few years ago. 15 years old, not even a learner's permit yet. Dad stops the 72 Pinto on a country road two miles from home, gets out of the car and tells me to get in the driver's seat. I stalled that car out four times before moving it 10 feet but on the fifth try I was off and going and never stalled it again. I drive an automatic now, bad knees and all, but drove sticks nearly all my life.
Teaching our kids to drive a stick isn't as important as it used to be since so few cars are made with manual transmissions these days and automatics have improved by leaps and bounds. But still a useful life skill.
