We planted 9 of them last night in cactus soil/perlite/ and vermiculite , how does that mix sound?
These seeds came from the pods that the storm blew off - luckily the pods were 8 - 9 months old anyway. We tried the bag with perlite and Peroxide/Water (I'll call it PPW) and we tried planting more seeds in cactus soil/perlite/worm castings (CPW)
PPW roots are three inches while some CPW have just stated roots which are maybe about 3/4 of an inch. With those results, I mixed new bags of PPW and moved the CPW over to the new bags.
If you recall we had four pods:
Two pods were at 9 months and had already started to split a little - these are the seeds that we split between the PPW and CPW
The other two pods that were still attached to the stem I had to experiment with.
I scraped the base of the broken stem and placed it in reverse osmosis water, and hung the two remaining pods off the side of the cup.
These sat in the window (West facing) for about three more weeks - changing out the water every two days
Pods were still firm but started showing signs of drying. This past weekend we went ahead and opened them up.
Since we had great success with the PPW, we went ahead and made three more bags last night
1) Bag - left over seeds from first PPW
2) Bag - All seeds from the last two pods
3) Bag - seeds that I purchased at the plant sale - Mother Plant - Mary Moragne
These are our first seeds that ever actually rooted - we were given two whole pods last year but none of them germinated.
