Not sure if this goes here or in the veggies area.. or just in general questions. Anyway, I was given some 'seed' garlic bulbs but they were soft and rotted and smelled horrible! I don't think this person understood that 'seed' doesn't mean 'rotten'. There were maybe 3 or 4 little sections I was able to pull out that weren't so completely soft.

I'm debating what to do with those now. Ideally I'd hold them in a dry place until October and then plant them so they could be cold outside over winter and grow in the spring. I don't think these will last at room temp though. If I chill them (fridge or freezer?) for a week or so now and then get them in the ground, they'd have tiny half formed bulbs by the time winter hit and they were killed VS dormant, right? If I just put them in the ground now just to see what happened, would there be any chance of getting tiny plantable cloves grown before October?

Or should I just toss them out? I'm tempted to put them in the compost bin but they might start to grow.
