Just remember, this hidden frost damage is only the second part of two contributing events. The first part was, as Rick said in another thread, the 17 inches of rain in Oct and Nov last Fall. It was that event that likely limited the number of buds and resulted in deformed flowers (reproductive system). That was the biggest factor. The final event was the freeze which triggered some metabolic process to abort any surviving buds in formation. Back on May 12th, when Jeff Stiller (NALS Board Member-Milw.) and I were discussing the hard freeze, I said that my Asiatic and Martagon appeared untouched by the freeze, he said: " but I'm afraid we haven't seen the full affect yet'. I never gave it much thought then----but he suspected then, there was more to come of it.
