There are male and female plants of this reseeding annual. Male flowers are the showiest, but inconsequential, in my opinion. Females produce small hanging hops very late in the season, reminiscent of beer hops but not showy, just interesting.

I grow the variegated form, but I don't see any use for the green one, unless you just want a very fast growing vine cover.
