The non-ornamental ones are very easy to grow and while they do have flowers, they put most of their energy into leaves and stems. The fleshy stems are edible, but it helps to chop them very fine before adding them to salads.

Yes, I also feed some of them to my neighbor's chickens and the eggs supposedly have much more of the absorbable form of DHA and EPA. She shares some of the eggs with me.

I love purslane added to salads. It is delicious! And full of vitamins.
