I use a "premium perennial mix" from Terra Gardens for the soil in my beds. Virtually everything I have grown in it is very happy. For beds in the soil itself, I mix this into the existing loam as my local soil is more river bottom type at least in most of the yard. Other spots have clay. I do grow some semps in the native soil and they do well in it too.
