The cougars are encroaching on rural areas and a couple of years ago one was seen on the fringes of Corvallis. There are a lot of them since hunting rules changed a few years ago. They are taking livestock.
The state wants to spend something like $3000 a piece to thin them out. Seems kind of stupid because hunters would gladly PAY the state to hunt them. But that is Oregon for you. This subject has been in the news here lately.
Are pumas the same as cougars/mountain lions? I vaguely recall a Smothers Brothers tune from years gone by that had all the synonyms for cougar in it. Cracked me up no end as all Smothers Brothers material did.
