Before my pods started splitting open, I too put them into panty hose "bags" and just left them that way until all the pods began to split. Only when the were all split did I remove those bags of pods and then scraped the seeds out of the pods, letting the seeds dry in a bowl. I tried to germinate those seeds but haven't had much luck. I have only three germinated so far, out of several dozen seeds. That's sure a poor rate of germination.
