Recently I got turned on to used plastic pallets - they are so durable that they can be used as plant bench tops, or you can get a really large pot off the ground. I found a place that was selling a bunch of really heavy duty plastic pallets for $15 each - a steal when new ones run around $70. There was nothing wrong with them except a few scratches and dust. And no worries about rot, termites, etc. - with some of the huge plants I've got, they are a necessity.
