Old, fat, and gardening in OH
Northern hearty trees belong out of doors. They also belong in soil that admits much more air than the garden soil they are in now.

Plan on starting over next spring.

The soil my trees live in is one part Gran-i-Grit and one part pine bark mulch with a dusting of peat and oyster-shell.
