I usually wear a pair of Holey Soles. No longer available as I think Crocs sued them but they were a Croc look-alike that fits my narrow foot better than Crocs. I wear an old pair of socks in them. But if I'm doing heavy digging, I wear an old pair of New Balance runners with an over the counter arch support.
