I am very encouraged by the reports that show people think the above average amount of rainfall earlier in the year is the main suspected reason for the above average rebloom this season. I would be hard pressed to name a single cultivar that has bloomed this season and that has not a at least had one cycle of rebloom. I still have a few plants that have yet to bloom the first time, so naturally I would not expect rebloom from them, but there is still time left for a few of them. A few outstanding plants for me so far this season have been:
South Seas
South Sea Enchantment
Mary's Gold
Orange Velvet
Optical Delight
Royal Eventide (I am hoping the looks of the bloom will grow on me) the performance of the plant has been super.
Gypsy Rose Lee
My red NOID
Really, off hand I can't think of anything (other than a few that have just recently bloomed for the first time)that have not had rebloom (not just a couple of flowers) but really nice displays of rebloom.
I certainly have never experienced rebloom of such proportions until this year! The reason I am so excited that people are contributing the cause of the impressive rebloom this season to the rain is that I now have most of my named cultivars planted in a bog, so I am hoping that even in years of less rain I will still get the great rebloom. I did have a lot of concern about planting in the boggy area, but after this year with the most rain I can remember in the early part of the season and the performance of the plants I am really encouraged that it was the right thing to do. Even now while the rest of the garden is dry as a bone in many places even with trying to water, the bog is still very wet. I will admit being so boggy certainly has it's drawbacks, very inconvenient working in muck, no one wants to stroll though my garden, etc.
