signet said:Well , we FINALLY got some rain Thursday night . It rained from 4 in the morning until about 8 or 8:30 a.m. .... too late to do any good for the height of the daylilies unfortunately but still I thought with all the scapes out there that there would be gorgeous bunch of blooms this a.m. .....sad to say it is just...." meh! " . The colors are so muted , not at all the glorious gems they usually are after a good soaking .....so I dug down to see ......the rain penetrated all of 1/4 inch .......not enough to get down to the roots of anything . Maybe it's time to turn it all back into lawn . I know that would please my hubby .....he could then mow the lawn in the back yard with his riding mower instead of a push mower.

We dug up our lawn in front of our house during a terrible drought in the mid-90's. We put in our little lily pond and planted around the pond. I find it easier to care for than a lawn that goes yellow and dry and ugly in a drought!

We got about an inch of rain last night from the two cells that moved through. One was a nasty electrical storm, and the other was a few hours of moderate rain without the thunder and lightning. I dug up a plant under one of the pine trees and the ground is still like dust under the trees. We need a few days of continuous rain to really make a difference.
