Based on the color of the leaves and the distance between them (internodes) I am guessing they're getting some protection. Sometimes you have to physically go out there and watch to see what's going on. (I have a light meter and have spent some time around here doing just that.) Jade plants look different in the sun, the red color and very short internodes being the most obvious cues. Has it been really cloudy lately?
