Karen those legs are actually roots, usually known as aerial or prop roots. So yes, it probably will harm the plant to cut them off.

I have 5 or 6 of these plants at my house, most are probably 20 years old and have several prop roots. They serve to hold the plant up, as well as to feed it. The plants are 6 to 8ft tall and wide.

If your space won't accommodate that plant getting a lot bigger, I think you'll need to move it. They just keep going up and making larger leaves as they go, so they get top heavy as well. Without prop roots the plant will likely grow spindly and flop over.
