Rosie, my 2nd eldest went to NC State; his brothers and sister love giving him anything blue just to irritate him. I think he has more problems with Fla State that UNC or Duke - often as not Fla. seems to put a whooping on them during football season.
Yes I live close to Plant Delights and try to make it to every open house (guess where I'll be this next weekend!). One day I hope to convince Tony I'm one of the cats so I can live there. So many plants, so little money! ;-)
I will check out Broadwells and the show in Raleigh. I discovered The Orchid Trail nursery in Morrisville several months ago (
http://www.orchidtrail.com/ for any who are not in driving distance). They have a large selection of orchids and I understand he does a good bit of online selling. I enjoy going through the greenhouses just to see so many varieties all in one place. I like DeWayne's in Smithfield too.
I have spent way more time at the farmer's market this year than any year before. Lots of fun things to look for there, including water plants and carnivores - all with reasonable prices.
We've lived here for over 26 years so experienced Fran & Floyd. But back then gardening was more hit and miss; now it's closer to an obsession (my wife thinks I need intervention; I think I just need more plants).
