It DOES plug into a socket. It's just that there's no cord. Heh, DH worked for Pac Bell for 27 years; I know exactly how a wall phone is installed. At least, that's how ours works. The plug is directly on the back of the phone, and plugs into a socket on the wall. He'll get a kick out of your chat with the youngster at the phone company.
