I don't have any other ideas, the deer around here don't bother lilac so I'm not sure what it could be. I was wondering if you were in a country that had some animal we don't have in North America but obviously that's not the problem. A picture of the whole victim might help or maybe someone else has an idea. We have a golden retriever too, he's teething at the moment but hasn't attacked any lilac bushes Hilarious!
