You can't have too many viburnums..

I'd agree that it's definitely a cherry species - but not a zone 10/11 one like Prunus salicifolia.

If these sprouts are from a stump of a plant grown outdoors in Massachusetts, it is much more likely to be a species like Prunus serotina - Black Cherry.
