I am mainly concerned with markers for my potted plants. House plants. I have over 1850. I have tried metal tags as you mention. I have tried various markers on regular plastic sticks. Nothing seems to withstand the sun and weather. What I do now, and it works, is use a number of different colored plastic sticks and a number of different hole punches. I have an index card for each species with the marker for that species listed and other info. Worse case scenario for this is the color of the marker fading in the sun (which has not happened yet.) But the odds of an Aloe with a red marker with a star and a small hole, even if it faded to pink (yes, I use pink) also being an Aloe (pink, star, small hole) are very small. May I suggest that if you do want metal markers out in the garden, hole punches might be the way to go. Gene
