The rhizome below is the kind of rhizome I'm confused about as an iris newbie (this image is from Misawa77). I recognize there are come increases attached, but beyond that, if you plant it with roots down and the rhizome half out of the soil, the foliage will be laying on the side. If you planted the increases separately and theen planted the rhizome half out of the soil with the foilage facing upward, there would be no roots in the soil. How on earth would this rhizome be planted...foilage up or roots down???
