The care home my mom's in loves her and treats her like a jewel.
Her teeth don't fit anymore (she's always been tiny, but lost weight - not surprising at 97), so she has soft food only. My family all lives in the same city and visit her often with an eagle eye on whatever happens. My mom is obviously happy there, and that's what really matters.
When she went from an independent living situation to the hospital, she went downhill very much, and they didn't have 24 hr nursing/dr care there, so she had to go to a full-care home. My brother & sister look after paying all the bills, Mom isn't capable of it anymore. Says she's ready to go, but I don't think it's time yet - she has the majority of her faculties, but every once in a while she she's just woken up she "sees" people who are gone, and she enjoys chatting with them or hearing them talk to her. Again, not surprising at her age.
I wish I lived in the same city, so I could visit her. Ah well, when someone calls me and puts the phone to her ear, she talks to me and is coherent. She knows who everyone is, and is happy - that's a blessing.
