have you ever heard of the "Carpet Rose"? It was all the rage about 30 years ago.
They ARE quite thorny.

The link I am adding is a nice intro to carpet Roses. I just Googled them.
I did not "get" that their foliage stays on all year.

BUT--I have a rooted, red one in a 6" pot. It has bloomed twice already.
